Lee was a contemporary of Young, Johnson etc at Oxford. This case is similar to that of foodie Jay Rayner, who worked at the Mail alongside Young and Sarah Vine. And that's - I think - the heart of it. The belief that once you've been inside the clubhouse, you're one of them for life. For Lee it was Oxford, for Rayner the Mail. And both have rejected it, to the consternation of those who could never survive outside the clubhouse.

I've just opened Facebook (no, wait) to look at some railway porn. First post in my timeline is from the Disused Stations group, showing what's left of Boscombe station, near Bournemouth. Interesting. Scroll down the next post. UK Government.
If you have any symptoms of Covid-19, however mild, take a PCR test immediately. If positive, stay at home so you don't breathe Covid-19 on other people.
This from the same government who have just announced they're doing away with the legal requirement to self-isolate if you have Covid-19. Talk about mixed-messages.

Edit: I suppose I should mention that I have a day off today.

Oh dear, not the Great Barrington Declaration again... https://zelo-street.blogspot.com/2022/0 ... again.html

One of the commenters talked of "focused protection" of the clinically vulnerable. I'm yet to hear anyone come up with a *practical* method as to how that could be implemented: can anyone here enlighten me?

Tell us to hide away in our rooms so that everyone else can do whatever the fuck they like and not feel guilty for killing us?

I seem to recall that when Australia started providing places for its indigenous people to recover from Covid (to avoid it spreading through their family units) there were howls of outrage from the usual suspects.

Aksherly... from https://gbdeclaration.org/focused-protection/

Lockdown proponents assert without evidence that the only way to protect the older vulnerable population is to limit general community transmission, in effect arguing that focused protection is impossible. We disagree. Standard public health practice regularly seeks creative ways to protect vulnerable people from a host of diseases and conditions that threaten them, and COVID-19 should not be an exception. In many publications[27],[28],[29] and at the Great Barrington Declaration site itself[30], we have delineated many practical policies to this end. These include, e.g., frequent on-site testing and limiting staff rotations in nursing homes, free home delivery of groceries for the home-bound vulnerable, providing disability job accommodations for older vulnerable workers, and temporary accommodations for older people living in multi-generational homes. The prospect of effective and safe COVID-19 vaccines offer an additional avenue for improved focused protection of high-risk individuals, both directly and by vaccinating caregivers. Still, better protection of the elderly cannot and should not wait until a vaccine is widely available.

For these types "Personal responsibility" really means
Fuck off and die quietly, where I don't have to witness it.

I hazard a guess he stayed in for the 6 months of lockdown we faced and quite comfortable in his own world.

Danielle Thornton was in the school pick-up line waiting for her children when she learned she would face a life-changing choice: get the Covid-19 vaccine or lose her job of almost nine years at the bank Citigroup.

She and her husband had watched for months as bosses across the US introduced vaccine mandates, knowing the family might face this moment. Then, in the form of an email on her phone, it arrived.

"We had many, many conversations about it," she says. "But ultimately we decided that our freedom was more important than a pay cheque."

Danielle is one of thousands of people across America opting to lose their job rather than get the Covid-19 jabs.

They represent a small minority. Most employers that have introduced such rules - about a third of the country's biggest companies and 15% of small businesses - say the vast majority of their staff have complied...
