"Labour's strikes"

Millions of rail passengers across Britain face fresh disruption on Thursday after the RMT union accused the government of “wrecking” negotiations...

...Talks were held on Wednesday between the union and industry bosses in a bid to break the deadlock, but they ended without agreement.

Mick Lynch, the RMT general secretary, said: “Grant Shapps has wrecked these negotiations by not allowing Network Rail to withdraw their letter threatening redundancy for 2,900 of our members.

“Until the government unshackle Network Rail and the train operating companies, it is not going to be possible for a negotiated settlement to be agreed.”...

Far from trying to prevent strikes, the Tories seem hell-bent on provoking more.

I gather that Jenrick was put firmly in his box by Lynch on Peston last night.

"Opposing modernisation".

This coming from a group of people who work to arcane and ancient rules, in a crumbling, unfit-for-purpose building that will cost billions to refurbish.

Yeah, right.

Did like the comment that Victoria Wood had risen from the grave and was writing QT scripts.

“Fury” isn’t this what their big dog Johnson wants to encourage?

Lammy has come out against strikes at BA.

I think the difference with the rail strikes is that Labour is much more in line for the blame, given that it's a private company and Unite donate to Labour.

But Labour will need funding. Unite will not be pleased at all. I think Lammy has made a mistake.

Yeah Sharon Graham will use this as an excuse to say we'll cut funding.

You can't really blame her. Though maybe Lammy was freelancing.

Rayner supports the strikes and likes listening to music as well. Me neither.
CHAMPAGNE SOCIALIST Angela Rayner sips champagne at the opera after boasting of her ‘solidarity’ with rail strikers

ANGELA Rayner and her Labour MP boyfriend managed to get to the opera — despite the rail strike.

Deputy leader Rayner was snapped on Thursday holding a glass of fizz next to Shadow Transport Minister Sam Tarry at Glyndebourne, East Sussex.

Rayner, who paid for her £62 ticket herself, said: “I’m both a proud trade unionist and a proud enthusiast for this British cultural landmark.” https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/19002944/ ... il-strike/

Lou doesn't mention BA, but hard not to see a bit of "shut up, Lammy" in this.

This is worth reading, and seems to me to be sensible.
