I searched and searched. I even contacted a company in Saskatchewan which specialised in locating hard-to-find videos and DVDs, and they admitted defeat. At last, thanks to the kindness of an alert reader, I have got hold of it and watched it for the first time in 45 years.
I searched for 10 seconds. Perhaps Hitchens means he couldn’t find a reel copy for his 16mm projector

Yes, but you live in the real world, and didn’t spend hours in the library compiling a list of potential sources, and then send each of them a hand written later by snail-mail

He talks about the Queen dying, and references those scary modern phenomena of the death of Princess Diana and people liking rock music and sports.

Got to be a pisstake. Got to be.

Mr McDandy has prompted me to reread the article, it is indeed utter bollocks.
All that research into marijuana has finally caught up with him

Don’t think its weed he’s on. The Ukrainian army was nothing of the sort a few months ago. Many are battle hardened from Afghanistan and Iraq banking favours with the Yanks.
Isn't the Ukrainian army amazing? A few months ago it was just a few overweight, undertrained geezers with ancient weapons.

Like me, all keen observers of "Mr. Hitchens" knows that every word he utters or publishes is deadly serious and that in public, at least, he carefully nurtures his reputation for lacking a sense of humour. So, when Hitchens says that in the 1960s Jagger and Richards and Lennon and McCartney contributed to the destruction of the middle class values, morality and society to which he wishes Britain could return but knows is forever lost, you better believe he means it. Similarly, when he says the British turned their backs on Christianity to worship at the altar of footballers from Best to Beckham and beyond, he'll point to the reams of meticulous research presented in his own work to prove this fact.

As someone pointed out to me a while back, never automatically assume that someone whom lacks a sense of humour = intelligent.

Quite the opposite, usually.

Hitchens reminds me, if anyone, of Adrian Mole. Socially conservative and convinced he's a genius because he knows a few long words and looks down on what he sees as common pursuits.

His most bizarre claim on this subject was the divorce epidemic was the fault of dangerous counter culture figure Englebert Humperdinck*

That is most people’s default position when meeting in a professional or workplace setting. That’s why its surprising so many people are remotely impressed by Johnson acting the clown. Apart from Gareth Keenan from the Office.

Hitchens has a solution to the refugee situation - send 'em to Glastonbury! Or the Hay Festival (What's that, Peter? Your invitation got lost in the post again?)! And what's with lefty students these days? One minute they're all Ukraine this and Zelensky that, the next they're all doing poovery and that sort of thing is frowned upon in Ukraine, and somehow it's connected to the January 6th coup attempt and the BBC's showing something with naughty words in it, and we're not gibbering enough about the Falklands, and people using electric scooters are just lazy.

Utterly batshit, but good for a laugh.

Is he filling a gap created by Littlejohn’s extended leave?
He has stumbled on an interesting point that coping with refugee logistics is a piece of piss compared to staging a large festival. Requisitioning a golf course and a caravan park in Lincolnshire would meet demands created by refugees.

I was a little surprised by Hitchens' little rant and, if I'm honest, a little disappointed. He usually avoids race, immigration and refugees as I think he considers himself above such populist nonsense yet this was very much a case of letting the mask slip, showing that in reality, he's no better than Littlejohn and all of the other monsters churning out their hateful bile out there on the right.

You’d have expected Hitchens to play to his strengths now the Conservative Party is a moral vacuum.
Its like he’s been leaned on with the sack if he doesn’t buck up his ideas. Cut the Malcolm Muggeridge bollocks and give me more red meat. Its all hands on for Boris or there’s the door.

Hitch identifies the great threats society faces: rap music, marijuana, and Elvis Presley. Next week he reviews the powerful new films, Rebel Without a Cause, The Wild One, and Reefer Madness, as he gets to the heart of the sinister "teen-age" movement.
