The barely disguised plot is the same as usual, of course - demand the BBC focus on highbrow, complex content. Wait a bit. Complain that the BBC doesn’t cater for the man in the street and so it should be privatised.

Apparently many anti-beeb Tories hated Top Gear (as in the Clarkson incarnation). Not because of him, but because it made it very difficult to say the BBC wasn’t making programmes that appealed to Joe Bloggs.

Top brass at the Beeb has been explaining for about 60 years that it walks the line between popular entertainment and something for everyone niche programming. And it does it very well as viewers will testify. The rest of the world’s media industry is at a loss as to why the British government is at war with the BBC.

Jeremy Isaacs said Tebbit cornered him to complain about all these programmes on the newly launched Channel 4 about homosexuals (they’d been two). When we said minority programming we meant stuff like golf, Tebbit explained. I’ve never heard the metropolitan elite and lefties complain about golf on TV and are perfectly happy to see fans of the sport catered for. That’s where we are.

And set up by socialists. All this edumacation, it's verging on communism...

He must think he's got a decent chance of being the next Tory leader if he goes in the Commons. He might well be right.
Bloody hope not, he’s sounds quite plausible if you don’t know anything. Which is how he’s rose to where he is.

Good luck getting that significance past the turnip taliban.

Problem is if they shift that way they will talking between themselves via twitter probably for at least 8-10 years.

And if Labour see any growth it could be three terms.

I can easily see them go to Frost at some point in that time, though he often appears as someone who likes to talk a lot but ask him to do any work and he is somewhat absent.
