I hear that Gullis has been appointed to 30p Lee’s old Conservative Deputy Chair job.

Indeed he has. I think we can take it for granted what the run-up to the election will be like.

I’d say appointing Gullis is more of a crushing blow than any poll.

Sophie Ridge interviewed him on Sky News this evening, at one point she asked him why he abstained on the Rwanda bill? This could prove damaging if the Tories try and run with the line about Labour trying to sabotage the Rwanda bill.

It was a bit of a mess, not withstanding his abstain position he also continued to shout over Ridge and his attack seemed to focus on Labour rejecting it like it was two faced but they’ve opposed it for a while now.

Good point well made. Not by Gullis, of course.

That happened to Stephen Kinnock Tweeting about metropolitan latte drinkers. It appeared from Google maps that coffee is widely available and consumed in Port Talbot.
It used to be wine drinkers as a disparaging label that politicians were about a decade behind the popular zeitgeist on.

The late Victor Lewis-Smith noted that the media and political classes tend to have a very cliched and outdated view of the working class, as evidenced by the perennial "beer and fags" bit of the Budget.

Another example being the mushy peas/guacamole story, which appears to have happened to every vaguely rich left winger in the English speaking world, and was probably started by Richard II to discredit Wat Tyler.

There are some nice sea front cafes-restaurants in Kinnock's constituency. Rare bit of regeneration success for the area. I expect Kinnock has visited. Maybe he kicked off because they would't serve him instant coffee in a styrofoam cup for 50p.

First heard the story in the 80s with dapper Larry Whitty in the seat. The punchline was ‘can I have some of the advocado stuff.’ Thanks to New Labour we became sophisticated enough to know what guacamole was.

I've heard people attribute it to Mandelson, Kinnock, Roy Jenkins, Brian Gould and more. I've also heard American and Canadian versions.

Slightly OT, but a friend of mine accidentally* bumped into Gullis yesterday.

My friend is well over 6 foot, as solid as a teak wardrobe and Gullis will have noticed.

*this is accidental as in plausible deniability rather than genuine mistake 😁

I suspect if he hadn’t have been well over 6 foot and well built, it might have. However, apparently it just got a “humph” and he moved on.
