Stephen Bush isn't as clever as he thinks he is. Assume he's talking about tax. Unless he knows something we don't, the promise not to raise employee NI, income tax, VAT and Corporation Tax rates is still holding. Never mind all the other stuff that is being delivered.
Now, sure, you can say the way they've got round that has been suboptimal on eg employers' NI, and freezing thresholds. But that's not the same thing as saying it was undeliverable and fell apart immediately. And it's not like they're the first government to do this stuff. I get why they hate the illiberalism of the government, but there's something more in the hostility towards this government from the (non rabid right) media. Like they hate them for not being as clever as them or something.
These tax rises this year seem to have come from the OBR having given Hunt the benefit of the doubt on productivity, but no Reeves. Or does Bush think they've come about because Reeves structured some tax rises wrong?
