I don't think this racism expose will make the slightest difference to Farage's popularity. His supporters hold identical views. What I don't understand, though, is the reluctance of people with racist views to admit it. They think they speak for "the silent majority" on everything else so why not race? It's almost as if they know it's wrong.

I don't think most of his supporters would say these things now, and would have thought kids like Farage were appalling when they were at school. It's whether they think they're relevant now that matters, and most of them probably won't. But it does also make him look shifty, as does the Russia stuff. He'll cop it much more when he appears on eg Question Time.

He would have probably been better off going yes I am a massive racist than the stock "politician" answer he gave.

Well, yes. The problem isn’t Farage’s past racism. It’s his current racism, xenophobia, and bigotry.

I'm reminded of a stand up routine by Dara O'Brien over 20 years ago in which he spoke of "Racist Top Trumps" and how every so often the pack got shuffled: first it was the Jews and the Irish who were the "Racist Top Trump", then it was the blacks and the Irish then it was the Asians and the Irish. "And now it's the Muslims (he was speaking shortly after 9/11) but it'll change back and the Jews and the blacks and the Irish will each get another go as the Racist Top Trump. He then talked about how tough it was to be an Irishman working in Britain during The Troubles, he concluded, "So speaking for my people, we're really grateful to Osama Bin Laden because he's certainly taken the heat off us!"

They absolutely would say it. Maybe not at first, but like the flagshaggers, a couple of minutes and they'd be right in there talking about dinghies and illegals.

If a child in school today was saying the stuff Farage said when he was at school they would probably be refereed to the local Prevent team for being an extremist. Over last 20 years Farage has become quite savvy. Whist he is happy to send dog whistles to racists he is very careful to avoid saying too much stuff that is blatantly racist.

With several groups trying to out flank Reform on the right Farage is in a bit of a bind. If he tries to deal with the extremists in his party he risks losing voters to other right wing parties.

18 or 88. It's quite The Thing amongst fashy circles. They think that they are being Bletchley-level clever with their numerical take on masonic hand shakes.

Same here. It really was clutching at straws/numerology bollocks. Does anyone really think someone at Reform had the brains to think all that? There was a cartoon strip in Viz with an utterly deranged conspiracy theorist in it (Andy - over to you?) and that smacked of it.
