It's not just RacistUK with the dodgy social media track record

A newly elected Lambeth councillor was suspended from the Green Party after she allegedly made a series of antisemitic social media posts.

Saiqa Ali, 56, was elected as one of 29 Green Party councillors in the south London borough on 7 May.

However, the Lambeth Green Party has since said Ali was suspended at the time of the election and would have to either sit as an independent councillor or join a different group...

Zack’s paying up the Council Tax he didn’t pay, likely about £4,000. There’ll be a fine of £70 too, which seems incredibly lenient. The bank interest on that money will have paid for that. Didn’t Rayner have to resign for a mistake like this?

If you ever feel like punching yourself in the face, spend some time arguing with some Zack fans on Bluesky. He didn’t have to pay, trust me bro, was the more credible end of it.

They don't realize it at all.

Remember The Express and co going after people who had mild disagreements with Sunak or Johnson on hospital visits? One of them was going after Dan Neidle because he'd donated to Luke Akehurst. Nothing on the substance of the point. I pointed out Dan had called out Tice, Zahawi, Rayner and strongly criticized aspects of Reeves' Budgets. Yeah, but he donated to Luke Akehurst, so I'm ignoring it. Like Nigel Tufnell saying "Yeah but this one goes up to 11".

Funny thing is that the council to which Polanski owes about £4,000 is Hackney. The Greens now control Hackney. I'm sure straight talking populists that they are, they'll be issuing a statement about "zero tolerance" of non payment of tax due, right? More than that, the impression created in the Bluesky discussion was that people on boats not paying the correct council tax may not be uncommon. They'll therefore be relishing this opportunity to go and collect more tax to fund better services, right?

Councils know where boats are moored, Zack's made some effort to avoid the council tax. Which he wouldn't be liable for if he was on a low wage. Oops.
Ch4's Holiday Swap should invite Nicola Sturgeon and Peter Murrel for a barge holiday on the River Lea while Zack and his partner go caravaning in Loch Lomond.

For a guy just exposed as having not paid years worth of council tax, he wants a lot of taxpayers money chucked about. No way the "wealth tax" pays for even a fraction of this. So it's borrow lots of extra money- debt being famously very cheap right now. I'm just stunned how many people seem to take this guy seriously. Why would nationalizing water even be a priority in an immediate affordability crisis anyway? You could freeze the water bills, like he suggests doing with energy prices, for much less money and much quicker effect. What's the difference, apart "nationalize Octopus Energy" not being a meme?

Sadly, we live in a vibes-based politics. If we end with PM Farage and Polanski as leader of the opposition, I'm emigrating.

I saw that. Fair play to Steve there (he can be a bit annoying talking about his own situation) but he was instantly on to this terrible ungreen policy. Jonathan Portes called it out on bluesky too, and got buried under Wolfie Smith rubbish.

I spoke too soon. Zack has learned jurist, Owen Jones, in his corner.

I think quite a few might have to cough up council tax they should have been paying. Could be some useful money for Hackney in that. I'm sure the Green mayor will be right behind this.

Dan has been overcomplicating the flimsy scam Zack was pulling off. He's not the only Green lefty boat person who doesn't believe he owes the Man.

He had to give chapter and verse.

Quite amusing that Zack sat in the London Assembly scrutinizing the Mayor's Council Tax Precept without thinking it was funny he didn't pay it.

To use a phrase from the Johnson thread

Lying liar tells lies

Zack Polanski has admitted that he did not vote in last week's local elections - as he was not registered.

The Green Party leader's spokesperson told Sky News the day before the elections that he had postal voted in Hackney so that he could visit Wales to campaign there on polling day.

Mr Polanski publicly told the east London borough's Green candidate Zoe Garbett: "You have my vote."

However, it has now emerged he had never registered to vote - and did not postal vote...

I am no politico but seems real odd for a politician not to do the one bit of politics anyone actually bothers with.

If I remember correctly, the wording on the voter registration form says it's a legal requirement to register to vote*. The leader of a political party not being registered should be of some official concern.

*whether you actually bother to vote is up to you.

People who move around don't always register to vote. I didn't vote in 1997 or 2001. I paid council tax of course. But I wasn't a member of the London Assembly, and if I were I'd have managed to avoid lying like this. I appreciate that he wasn't expecting to be leading a nationally significant political party when he put bullshit on old CVs, but he's still making doing this stuff. It is a bit Bozo like.
