Does not surprise me the discredited are putting this out. MP turned down second job offer… is this Corbyn’s lot doing the “good Friday agreement stuff” again?

They done this one before when Corbyn didn’t apologise “we’ve got texts and emails showing this and that” and they still haven’t published them.

Fact of the matter is they may have emails from Clark saying it is advised you don’t take the post but the decision not to do so and when that happened would be between the Starmer and the consultancy it’s probably why his team have told them it’s untrue as it’s literally unprovable.

But I go back to the start on all this, the reason this is an issue is that Paterson benefited financially and used his position and the government then turned around and tried to overrule the checks and balances and bully the system to fit its own agenda.

That’s corruption, when Starmer turned down a job literally is not.

This is the former Director of Public Prosecutions not the bloke from the Simpsons.

The fact is if they hate the polling and hate what Labour have done in this last week then they know they can jog off and join the Tories at least then they will be the actual opposition.
Yeah telling that Corbyn's former speechwriter is behind this.

Most likely explanation is that Jez laid down the line to the Shadow Cabinet. He didn't have any power to ban Labour MPs from doing second jobs.

I'm looking at Nunns' "receipts".

What am I supposed to be seeing here? I can see LOTO knew about the job, which Starmer said they didn't. He may not have known. I can't see Jez stopping him from taking the job. If it's a lie, it doesn't seem a very important one.

Usual Corbyn pals, I expect. Interesting they haven't said anything on the record. They're happy with Alex Nunns telling the faithful. It's not exactly a volcanic story- Starmer turned down second job in 2017.

I think this is the right approach. I might not go as far as what the second bit implies, though I accept hardly anybody agrees with me on that. Consultancy is where the most egregious abuse is.

But I like the tactics here. "Surely, you can agree this relatively modest thing, right? Oh dear, you've just kept the story going."

Labour to force vote on banning MPs’ paid consultancy work
Keir Starmer also argues there should be wider ban on almost all second jobs for MPs

Especially as Chope has effectively just forced them into a debate on the Paterson business.

Do they think that people will eventually get fed up of all this and say "yeah, whatever, do what you want - you usually do."

Oh...

In the past he has always intervened to ensure debate, it's one of his obsessions.

Plus he's an attention seeking ham.

I know it's his thing, but did he know what he was objecting to this time? Going to get his Brexit mate Paterson an extra hour of stick in Parliament.

The editor of LabourList has clarified that it wasn't the reshuffle Rayner was uninformed about but the timing. Of course this hasn't stopped people freaking out.

If the rumour is true that Yvette Cooper is the new shadow Home Secretary, that is going to be most interesting seeing her against Patel.

Why would Sir Keir distrust that wing of the party, eh? It's not like they're going to walk out in the middle of the conference over some bollocks to cause maximum embarrassment, is it?

I said at the time that I thought Long-Bailey, who I don't rate had a raw deal. But everybody else seems to have walked out themselves- not just Andy McDonald, Margaret Greenwood, Dan Carden, Nadia Whittome, Lloyd Russell-Moyle, Cat Smith. Of those, I can respect Cat Smith for putting in a decent shift but the others were happier on the backbenches anyway.
