How are the polls? I've got a good feeling about London, where Sadiq Khan is literally handing out knives to stabbers and literally waging war on car drivers? Are we closing?

The metropolitan trailblazers, daft enough to believe Boris before anyone else and first to find him out.

Funny you should mention that.

I have a theory that running against London all the time is probably a bad idea when it comes to winning votes in London.

Margin of error poll that doesn’t say a lot, much as I’d loved to believe sleazy attack ads repel voters.

Reminds me of the "Tories need a deal with UKIP" stuff from before 2015. Toby Young generously proposed that the Tories could win everywhere all over the South, while UKIP could be "the second party of the North".

“Stability of Sunak and Hunt” = not absolutely tailspinning into a ditch for a few months meaning you haven’t shat the bed in the polls like when Truss was in charge.

I’ve heard of keeping your expectations low, but that’s practically subterranean.

People going from Don't Know to Tory is doubtless evidence that they really want more Jez politics, or something.

Because banker Rishi speaks nice and wears a smart suit ‘the grownups are back in charge,’ claims Andrew Marr. That kind of vacuous commentary from ‘respected commentators’ has done more to legitimise rogues and zealots than Murdoch and Dacre. Sunak continues to spurt Johnson’s culture war shite and his hardline free market fundamentalism is far more controversial and dangerous than Johnson’s flash the cash populism.

Time to ask what services he plans on cutting to accommodate the resulting shortfall.

Tubby Isaacs wrote: Sat Apr 15, 2023 12:49 pm Real "Red Wall" populism here. Probably hold a few southern seats v the Lib Dems though.

The Red wall was Johnson’s trophy bride and it does make sense for the Tories to forget about it (apart from 30p Lee leading a token expeditionary force). There was never a cat in hell’s chance of Brexit voters in Surrey wanting to subsidise half empty fish factories in Grimsby.
The problem with the optics of inheritance tax cuts is that more loot for the toffs can quickly become ‘Labour will take your ma’s gold wedding ring.’

Also, remember Mr "I earn 90k and I'm poor" of Bury?

"We won't take your granny's fillings because none of you are rich enough" isn't going to make friends.

Tell me if the world’s changed but whatever trade you’re learning, a 16 year old trainee will do some maths on day/block release or get sacked for not turning up. Perhaps Rishi was let into Boris’s circle because they needed a girly swot who can do numbers.
