Yep, the Tories even won over half the vote in 1997. Unlike some other Surrey seats (SW Surrey, Guildford, Esher and Walton), there's not much of a Lib Dem base to build on. So losing that would be seismic indeed.

Who'd still be going with that "Starmer represented bad people" lark? Mark Jenkinson, that's who. Depressingly antics like this have secured him a safe (even probably now) new seat over a much less offensive Tory MP.

This doesn't look the most convincing. It's actually correct that Labour talked out the bill (because it was shit).

But the Government has a very large majority even now. Why aren't they using it if ULEZ is so outrageous?

Andrea Jenkyn's was on a TV show earlier where she was described as 'Former Education minister Dame Andrea Jenkyn's.' One sentence that sums up everything that is wrong with current state of British politics. She was given a job beyond her ability which she clung onto for a few months before getting a gong for all her efforts.

Jenkinson has got up early today to continue his bollocks about Starmer. "Morally deficient" and "the vast majority of people" agree with him.

However, he can do even worse than that.

Also, I wonder if "look around and see the difference we've made" is a winning card.

Also, if you're going to paint peers as bad guys, not sure if the holocaust survivor and the arts show presenter are the best choices.

A reception site for refugees in rural Cumbria might be a good idea. Even most Cumbrians would never know they are there.

Some Afghans were relocated to Barrow. Cue some local arseholes holding up signs in the town centre demanding they be removed. Didn't go down well with the locals in general, who have strong ties to the forces and respect for their allies.

In a more touching tale, I heard about an Afghan family in Carlisle who very sheepishly asked if it was OK to look around the cathedral. When told yes, in they went, cue small kids oohing at the ceiling of stars.

Benton -typically - jumping before he is pushed, there. Following the courageous example of his former leader, Bozo Johnson.

The man’s a cunt.

This goon is a director of UK Onward, a Tory think tank.

Exports that are "money spinning" are bad, apparently. If there's a lack of space (which isn't universally the case for where universities are), we could, you know build some halls of residence and create some.

By-election alert.

Scott Benton has resigned his seat, likely date of the by election is 2 May. The same day as the local elections.

That's about the ideal day from Sunak's point of view. Benton was always going to get recalled, but surprised he's taken one for the team.

Seb Payne, still without a seat, fighting the good fight. I haven't listened to the audio but I find the preview quite funny. There are people who just think, fuck it, I'll stick it to the man, when they vote. Pre-Coalition, lots of these people voted Lib Dem, They then voted UKIP. They'll vote Reform this time. But what about 2019? Who does Seb think they voted for? I'd venture that lots voted for Bozo. Perhaps a chunk of that was an "easy vote", rather than "the reallingment"?

Not a cat in hells chance of the UK achieving economy of scale to rival EU, US and Asian conglomerates. MacMillan and Wilson worked out this out over 60 years ago. Perhaps Nick Timothy will hire Professor Quatermass to revive the Blue Streak rocket programme to go to Mars.
Or is Timothy arguing for an autarky economy in a single market that now doesn’t even cover the whole of the UK thanks to twats like him.

Timothy's unusual of his ilk in at least trying to put forward an economic plan. Most of them just stick to "culture". Goodwin when asked about it, tells people to read his book. Wherein one will find something clever and subtle which can't be summarised in a Twitter thread. Either that, or he's incredibly relaxed about ceding the economic argument to "liberals".
