Apparently Farage has quoted New York City as the sort of thing we should be doing with Police numbers.

NYC has a lot of police. 53 per 100,000 inhabitants, compared with 38 in London, which is already much more than the country in general, including areas with lots of crime. How many cops would he really add in Lincolnshire?

Saw a clip from Farage’s stump speech earlier on crime. He actually used the dog-whistle phrase “we will take back control” about six fucking times.

Fucking shameless. But catnip to the hard of thinking.

The police recorded 535 homicide offences in year ending (YE) December 2024. This was a 5% decrease from 563 offences in the previous year and is the lowest in a decade (533 in YE March 2014).
Per the ONS. The population is quite a bit up on 2014.

There are certainly major annoyances with crime, like bike and phone theft for which some extra police capacity could make a lot of difference. Same with fraud. By all means campaign on that, but the idea it's a war zone out there is bollocks, and going to lead to rapidly diminishing returns.

I'm aware every country on Earth produces them, but we're among the few places that pander to them.
Because we're the only place where calling someone clever is an insult. We've not just had enough of experts, we've never trusted them. Dad used to repair the car in his garage and do all the odd jobs that needed fixing round the house but these days everyone's too idle so they get a man in. Dad never had central heating, a dishwasher, double glazing or modern engines to contend with but that's just nitpicking.

Farage is fumbling to find his Brexit sequel which can move him toward 52% and it isn’t net zero. The fact that he’s enjoying around 30 percent support in opinion polls demonstrates a sad gullibility in the population.
I listen to the experiences of people who like me have had to make changes after warnings of diabetes and high blood pressure in health checks.
“Doctors say that to everyone to scare you, it’s a load of rubbish,” is a view I’ve heard more than once. You just know they’re Farage supporters.

Why is Farage now plastered across Facebook? I've never really seen much political stuff on Facebook in the past but yesterday I got GB News stories promoting Farage and Telegraph stories pushing Farage's speech. Is this a new strategy on the part of Reform?

I've seen the same. Then I made the mistake of engaging with the Reform UK Wales (sic) page and now I've been flooded with idiotic 'common sense' content.

Cunts.

I always took it as sarcasm and nothing more. Not, as many on here seem to think, anti-intellectualism.

Seems I've been let off lightly as I get Gary Stephenson popping up too frequently on my timeline. But its not angry gammon free. I've been watching vegan recipes and there's an army of mainly men who are furious at people who don't eat meat. Who are these fuckwits? Armed with bogus nutritional science and tiresome moribund comments.

Saw a clip of Gary claiming all the deficit spending since Covid went to the richest. That’ll be news to everyone who received furlough.

Worst I get is the odd Express and Mail accounts.

I used to get a load of American politicians with their ten gallon hats and something reassembling Mr Money bags from the Monopoly game with a name like Dick Randysticks

They seem to have disappeared the worse Trump's polling has got, I suppose primary season is closing in.

This morning three national newspapers devoted their front page to variations on "What I will do when I become Prime Minister" from the leader of a party that has four MPs. Such blatant bias is unprecedented.

Further deranged bollocks from Farage.

Clacton MP Farage earlier posted a video on X, saying: “This video proves EssexPoliceUK transported left-wing protesters to The Bell hotel in Epping. There is no way Chief Constable BJ Harrington can stay in position.”

Really?

They're always doing that, the Police. When they've got one lot of difficult people to police, they think "Let's bring a load more of them in, we could do with some extra work!"
"Officers did provide a foot cordon around protesters on their way to the protest, where they and others were allowed to exercise their right to protest.

"Later some people who were clearly at risk of being hurt were also escorted by vehicle away from the area for their safety.

"To reiterate, we categorically did not drive any counter protesters to the site on any occasion."

I hate to break it to Farage, but when I used to follow Spurs away, we generally got a police escort from the railway station to the ground. It never really occurred to us that we were getting 'transported' by the police to our Saturday afternoon ruck.

Anyone else notice Badenoch 'both sides'ing this earlier, by the way?
