As I said yesterday … it gets polarised between extremes. There are people who just want to deny climate change is happening – they’re wrong – and on the other side there are people who approach this with more ideological zeal where they just don’t care about the impact on families.
He's still going with this stuff, Mr Sensible Moderate.

It is true that the public probably haven't been prepared for short term costs. It's easy to talk about green jobs and opportunity but we wouldn't be doing this if we didn't have to. But it's kind of his job to make the point that there is a cost, but costs of not doing it are higher. They make that sort of argument all the time with Defence spending, what's the problem here? If you just say "fuck it, not paying the costs", that isn't moderate.

Not sure this is particularly a winning argument for them in the current context, given that the Prime Minister is Rishi Sunak.

Can't even bother to do my hilarious "how are the polls?" skit any more.

Looks like crumbling schools have hit them.

Given that he's going full-on Major '97 and seven bins is the new Cones Hotline, who's playing Edwina Currie?

Must say, the principle that a policy has to work for the poor is a new departure for the government.

Lib Dems as our Teals? That's the obvious comparison for me.

I think we can overestimate the degree to which the "Red Wall" swing vote consists of people who think "green crap" too. Only a base is going to be impressed with this stuff.

Lucky the NHS is so flush. But I expect "all the right people will be unhappy" or something. Well done, Brave Rishi. Proper longtermism.

A nice little poem lifted from Twitter.
As I was going to South Mimms
I met a man with seven bins
Each bin had seven sacks
Each sack had seven twats
Each twat sold seven lies
Lies about bins and twats in a sack
This is the story of Rishi Sunak.

He's now encouraging fat children to drive diesel tractors past the booked out dentist? That's quite the killer electoral strategy.

"Do what you like, we don't care" seems more like it. Out of ideas, credit, and friends.

I’d prefer carrots to sticks but tax breaks for car sharing or moving to non animal produced protein aren’t bad ideas.

After a brief look at social media this morning, I think 7 bins Sunak is going to regret announcing the policy that earned him the nickname 7 bins Sunak, as it seems to be sticking 😁

I looked up Kemi's constituency.

https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/co ... privation/

It comes 493rd in England.

My constituency is pretty affluent and comes 302nd. Not to say there are now poorer people in villages- we live next to a small council-built road with probably about 10 houses that the council still own- but my guess is that most of the poorer people live on estates in Leominster and Ledbury. So not "rural poor", exactly. I'd be surprised if the poorer people in Kemi's constituency didn't live mostly in towns.

This doesn't augur well for Sunak. "We thought he looked reasonable, but we've changed our minds", say Lib Dems.

Correct, she’s talking out of her backside as usual. Very prosperous rural catchment area, popular with old rock stars like Ray Davies. Saffron Walden is well connected by rail and bus, her constituency is not rural Norfolk or the Fens where you’re well fucked without a car.
