Hodges and his ilk, they're tories with typewriters. They all think that running a country of 70 million people in a world of 5D complexities is a doddle.
Hence, the prevailing clusterfuck.

That's what's wrong with the country. All the people who know how to run it are cutting hair, driving cabs and writing newspaper columns.

And the people writing columns should be cutting hair?

I wouldn't trust many of them with scissors.

Most of the people writing columns should be middle ranking copywriters.

Dan isn't impressed with Kemi's stance on Chagos.

I'm never sure with Dan: stupidity, entitlement or friendships with current politicians.
My Impression: he is very influenced by leaders personalities.
His alignment was mid-right on the traditional Thatcherite Conservatives.
A nice pleasant land for outer-borough Ruperts to play at Bertie Wooster.
Dan's tragedy is that both "parties of the right" have shifted far beyond his comfort zone.
He's smart enough to recognise that their bigotry can quickly become anti-semitism.
He's also repelled by low lifes like 30p Lee or Marc Francois treading Westminster's hallowed turf.
At heart, he's a born to rule blue blood.
Like fellow nepo' Toby Young, he lacks the brains or work ethic to participate full-time.
He views Farage and Badenoch as grubby chancers - and that's his stopped clock moment.
Dan's most tragic irony.
Labours rightward track means his values most closely align with his mother's party.
