Very poor by Labour…

Though at least Goodwin didn’t win that kind of person needs locking up not being given a seat in parliament.

I think I shall stay away from the media today.

It will be unbearable.

Have to say if they had lost Runcorn as well it wouldn’t look particularly amazing. There seems to a ceiling for Reform.

I'm not bothered so long as Goodwin didn't get in. He blamed his loss on "a coalition of Islamists and woke progressives that came together to dominate the constituency"

My contact on the ground reckoned that is how Denton would have voted: Gorton being the Reform stronghold.

Ultimately, it's a typical by-election protest vote.

Seems to be mostly Tory vote, I actually wasn’t aware it was such a small majority. It’s more typical of those outlying seats such as Leigh.

Greens cut evidently massive amounts of the Labour vote it has to be a concern and the saddest thing is I can’t see it getting better. As evidently the country is.

It does hurt the PR argument somewhat mind.

Goodwin making noises about strife on the way unless his people are allowed to waltz in. Cunt.

Farage has chipped in with a racist conspiracy about family voting.
John Curtice reckons it’s the worst Conservative Party performance in a by-election ever. A barely noticed fun factoid.

Get down to Wrens today, Nige. Replace that kitchen sink you wasted, throwing it at this.

If these couldn't win a by-election, he's not going to be PM after a GE when voters play it safe and stick with what they know.

Switched on the radio and the first words on 5 Live I hear is a presenter announcing that no Labour seat is now safe. I expected Labour to lose but the biggest story here is that the cunt party and their snivelling shit of a candidate didn't win. This, despite the massive, coordinated media campaign behind them.

In reverse order - just 706 votes  I wonder what Olukemi will have to say about that?

As for family voting; https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... byelection

Goodwin said: "The Greens can only do this in 20-30 seats in the country. We can deliver these kinds of results everywhere."
Saw that clip just now. The interviewer then said "But you didn't win." He looked at her like something he'd trod in and said "We doubled our votes from 2024."

But you said results, not votes, knobhead.

He described his childhood as working class, according to his Wiki page, something former colleagues have disputed. Eh how come? Nothing screams working class more than St Alban's, where he was born and raised.

Sincere apologies for the link, but is Hannah Spencer all she claims to be?

This is "but Jeremy got more votes than Starmer" territory, isn't it?

Read a claim her sister is Lambeth Labour councillor Rebecca Spencer and another sister and mum have run as Green candidates.* So the ingénue dog loving plumber may well be a construct from casting central. But so what? A media gullible enough to give Farage and Johnson a free run as anti-establishment cheeky chappy ordinary blokes deserves to be played.
* Which is a more interesting take than the Mail story: Plumber has a lucrative side hustle flipping property.

Indeed, the only positive news is that he didn't win, but Jesus coming third. How on earth do we recover from this?

Neal Lawson says this is a sign that there is a progressive majority in this country.
