Phil Murphy in New Jersey is now 40,000 up, with 8% still to come, almost all from good counties for him.

I actually don't think that's a bad result, given that he did the right thing with Covid, In an off year (as the NY governorship always is), you're going to build up a formidable base of people against you.

The Republicans are claiming that it was "irresponsible" to call the election for Murphy, like calling elections has never happened before. The call was not only right, it was later than it could have been. Dave Wasserman is the high priest of calling elections, and he went to bed saying Murphy was very close to being unassailable. He could easily have stayed up a bit longer and called it.

A lot of people are saying this result is a disaster for the Democrats because they should have won New Jersey by more considering the state voted for Biden by a lot. Although it is worth pointing out in both Clinton's and Obama's first years the Democrats lost both New Jersey and Virginia.

Virginia was a fair bit less blue back then though. It's a bad result and McCauliffe didn't see the CRT bollocks coming. Hopefully next year, the Democrats will be more ready and have passed a few things, with less bullshit about Afghanistan about too.

Critical Race Theory. Despite not being taught in schools in Virginia it became a big issue thanks to the Republicans and pathetic media outlets who just repeat Republican talking points.

Don't think that works, really. Nobody thinks Youngkin goes around saying the n word all the time, or that he wants Martin Luther King removed from history books.

It's hard to respond to "parent power" without looking anti-democratic. He hasn't got all that much power over schools, so it'll be interesting to see where he goes with this, and I'm sceptical it's a trump card that flips states.

One thing that helps the Republicans a lot is their lead on the economy. The way they raise deficits then complain about them when out of power is pretty transparent, but seems to work for them.

Youngkin's promising children will be taught "how to think". Apart from being a dogwhistle, what does that mean? How is he going to make that real? Apart from starting bullshit battles with school boards, of course.

Texas real estate agent and Trump supporter Jenna Ryan - who tweeted after storming Capitol Hill on Jan. 6 that she was “definitely not going to jail” - was sentenced to 60 days behind bars on Thursday.

She’ll be reminded fairly swiftly she’s only doing white time. What’s wrong with Guantanamo Bay?

I'm probably the only person still following the count in the New Jersey Governor race, but Phil Murphy is now 72,000 and 2.5% up.

This on the other hand is grimly hilarious.

Noticably's Murphy's margin of victory is greater than Youngkin's.

The House has now passed the Infrastructure Bill, 4 days after polls closed in Virginia. I don't blame anybody in particular for it taking so long- and note that Trump didn't even publish a plan- but it might have helped if McAuliffe could have run on this.

Worth noting that Virginia is, per the Cook PVI index, a Dem+2 state, and NJ a Dem+6 state. The unpopularity of Trump has inflated Democrat expectations in those states somewhat.

Likely Democrats will do better with the outstanding votes.

I don't think the NJ Republican has conceded yet, absurdly.

AOC and other members of the squad voted against this.

The US Navy is trolling the rednecks

The US Navy has launched a ship named after a gay rights activist forced to resign from the service because of his sexuality in the 1950s.

The USNS Harvey Milk was launched in San Diego on Saturday in a service attended by Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro and Milk's nephew, Stuart.

It is one of six new ships to be named after famed US civil rights leaders...

They seem to manage to square their hatred of government with adoration of its military arm well enough already.
