This seems like a very misleading headline from the Mail.
From ‘plook’ to property hotspot... homes in ‘dismal’ town are now fastest to sell in Scotland
There was a time, not so long ago, when Cumbernauld was written off as the dreariest place in Scotland.
Much maligned, it twice won the ‘Plook on the Plinth’ award – in 2001 and 2005 – for being seen as the country’s ‘most dismal town’.
Famed for providing the concreted backdrop for the hit 1981 movie Gregory’s Girl, some of the buildings and streetscapes featured were later slated for their cold, brutalist design.
However, it seems the town has recently undergone a radical change in fortune, having emerged as the fastest place in Britain to sell a house.
According to new data from estate agents Rightmove, it takes 64 days on average – just over two months – to sell a house in the UK.
But in Cumbernauld, which was designated as a New Town in the 1950s, homes are now selling in a little over two weeks, typically just 15 days.
I was in Cumbernauld earlier this year and it is still a dreary place. The two shopping centres are nearly empty and the majority of houses in the town are rundown and grotty. On the outskirts of the town there are some new estates which offer easy access to Glasgow which are presumably the homes that are selling fast.

It's not been the same since Claire Grogan left...

For non-Scots Mailwatchers, a “plook” is a spot or blemish. Cumbernauld was never a bright sunshiney place - even when it was new.

The old village looks very desirable whereas the new town's a Le Corbusien dystopia. Like Harlow.

In its early days, Cumbernauld ran a very odd promotional film.
Not one of those shiny "A town gong places, we're building a monorail" type things.
This was a film-noir esque thriler featuring the divine Fenella Fielding..

That's quite a find, no idea what's going on with production values lying between the Children's Film Foundation and a 70s sex comedy. Why Fenella Fielding was never a big TV star is a mystery. Perhaps she preferred the stage with fag hags fluttering around her lighting cigarettes and pouring her sherry from her vineyard.
Shiterag which has spent decades telling foreigners to piss off home gets its knickers in a twist when foreigners piss off home.

They can see which way the wind's blowing in this country and how it's very likely to become a Temu copy of Trump's US in a few year's time.

I would like to think Trump had become a busted flush before then

"The Devil looks after his own".
I had a great uncle who served in the guards in Italy.
He recalled a speech from a senior officer before one op.
It went something like this.
"They say the devil takes care of his own.
In the next few days we'll be making the introductions".
It got a big cheer from the Polish lads after some hasty translation.

(Largely) Immigrant-free, (overwhelmingly) Muslim-free Poland is going to be increasingly held as some sort of Utopia from now on.

Christmas concert at Trump-Kennedy Center is canceled after woke host pulls out in protest of rebrand
In Mail land anybody in America who attacks Trump is automatically labelled woke. I've read the entire article and there is nothing in the article that indicate that the host is woke. This is just somebody who has performed at the venue for years and objects to the fact that Trump has changed the name and the ethos of centre. Pulling out will have led to the host losing a nights pay but he clearly feels strongly about this so should be applauded for his stance.

The story captures the right's attitude to the arts - they consider artists as essentially performing monkeys. Shut up and dance, and if you complain then you're a metropolitan elitist who's snubbing the people by not capering for the power brokers in the gilded ballroom.
