Don't wish to worry you, but the Chancellor is on to "don't listen to the doomsayers".

Of interest here is she still blames a "chaotic Brexit". I'd be happier if she said "Brexit".

The article isn't that bad, although perhaps don't listen to those who helped cause this mess would have been better. Meanwhile,
The I told us yesterday it was going to get watered down.

There might be a case for watering down day one protection, as it goes. You get cases where people know very quickly that things aren't going to work. Perhaps a month or so? Are employers really going to keep churning staff every month? It's not like unemployment is at early 80s levels, where they can do that and then have their pick of people with very good employment records. Actually, perhaps there's something like this in it already, I don't know.
Reeves does a decent job rousing the troops there, I was being playful. She once again says "this isn't austerity", but that won't stop lots of people on the left lying about it.

Epping sex offender Hadush Kebatu deported to Ethiopia, Home Office confirms
Kebatu, who was wrongly freed from Essex prison, was put on a flight to Ethiopia and arrived on Wednesday
GB News got a video out of David Lammy not confirming he'd be "on the next flight". So he went within 3 days. Doubtless they'll flag this up to their viewers.

Quite incredible that they're still going with this stuff. Nothing better for an Opposition Day? Not very many turned up for it.
Nick Thomas-Symonds duly smashes the ball out of the park.

Nice sighting of a mostly unlamented Labour politician.
Lord Hutton, a Labour peer and former defence secretary, says the joint committee has not heard any evidence that politicians interferred with the CPS decisions in this case.
But he says he is worried about “complacency” in government. He says he is worried that the “inherent reticence on the part of government to really call out the dangerous nature of Chinese espionage activity” could lead to other alleged spies not being prosecuted in future.
Hermer disputes this. He says the new legislation will make it possible to prosecute allege spies. He goes on:
We now have legislation that is fit for purpose, and we will use that legislation whenever there’s credible evidence that people are seeking to damage the national interest of this country.
Isn't that the whole point of the new legislation? Well done for feeding lines to the Opposition. Being diplomatic in public doesn't meany you're "complacent".

Edit- I got this wrong. Perfectly possible to dismiss. The protection is against unfair dismissal.

As ever, Lavery up on policy.
Ian Lavery (Lab) says the big banks have been allowed to abandon high streets. Yet they made more than £40bn in profits last year. They are “drowning in cash”, he says. Will the government set up a review of face to face banking.
Starmer says he knows how important face to face banking is. The government is going to roll out 350 banking hubs. He says 180 have opened already. And 350 is not the limit.

Labour MPs furious after being told to abstain on Farage’s 10-minute rule bill proposing ECHR withdrawal
It's a 10 Minute Rule Bill Farage publicity stunt, which will go nowhere. Ignore it. Go and do something else less boring instead. That's what MPs do when there are 10 Minute Rule bills. I've seen it on TV. They leave the chamber almost as one.

Turns out Labour MPs could vote against the totally meaningless bill. Probably won't stop some of them being furious.

Ha ha ha. MP rents out spare room at below market rate, saving the tax payer money. Scandal!

I’m just astonished that Farage would appear actually to have done a bit of actual work in the Commons.

Here's another massive fuck up and likely a resigning matter if the agent isn't liable. Don't worry, just the Chancellor, a month before the budget.

Quite likely.
That'll be a load more market speculation that the new chancellor will be listening to Andy Burnham and co. Best thing maybe to get eg Darren Jones in fairly quickly, and he can raise taxes and calm the markets.

This is a major thing. Any minister would have a problem with this.
Like Rayner, she's been careless.

Well the problem for Reeves here is that Rayner has set a precedent by resigning in very similar circumstances to those in which Reeves now seems to find herself. She may find herself under quite extraordinary pressure to follow Angie Rayner’s example, pressure it may be hard, if not impossible not to give way to.
