The BBC is doing too much apologising and too little investigative journalism.

Chris Philp has made an absurd attack on the Government over somebody he doesn't like getting found Not Guilty by a jury- unlike someone they do like, who pleaded guilty. Dominic Grieve called it out vey strongly, questioning what a jury verdict has to do with the Government, and whether the Conservative Party still supports them. As Grieve says, this really isn't the standard that should be expected of the Shadow Home Secretary. He should know seeing he used to hold that position himself until (allegedly) being demoted because Murdoch didn't like him.

What I really want to see:

1. Keir Starmer, or one of his senior cabinet ministers to use Spaffer's expensive press room to make regular announcements. Keep it short and punchy: Updates on hospitals repaired, failed asylum seekers deported , and hooligans arrested. Play this to the gallery "In the same period in 202?, the conservative administration deported zero failed asylum seekers"

2. When seniors form other parties advance a misleading claim, meet it assertively. Trash their fake facts and numbers. Reiterate that this is a government that intends to govern according to the law of the land. Maybe drop a few easter eggs regarding former tory ministers with their beaks in the till.

3. Tear down the "debating point of the day" form the far right. "An entertainment channel claims that all Londoners are prisoners in their homes due to rising crime. Here are the latest crime figures - not perfect, but compare with the situation five years ago when we had 20,000 fewer police officers.

I want to see a situation where the likes of Jenrick, Philp, Farage and all his little goblins know that lying will be met with push back.
Their debating trousers will be metaphorically pulled down in public, and them made objects of ridicule.

A veteran far-right activist who was a key figure in the BNP was pictured feet away from Robert Jenrick as the shadow justice secretary controversially met protesters in Epping.

Eddy Butler was seen looking on as Jenrick visited the protest in Essex where the police have been attacked in the past by groups of masked men.

Butler, who was a key strategist on the BNP during its rise in the noughties and has been involved in other groups in recent years, is among far-right figures who have been involved in the protests.

Jenrick also interacted with demonstrators including a woman with a T-shirt saying “send them home”. It’s not clear if he met Butler, but the far-right figure appeared behind him on a number of occasions.

Jenrick would otherwise have joined the considerable exodus of Tories and former Tories to Reform UK if he didn't still fancy his chances of replacing Badenoch.

In an interview on Rest is Politics, Jeremy Hunt was described as the most experienced grandee on the Tory benches. Not disputing that’s true but fookin ‘ell. And he did sound like a towering intellectual compared to the current crop.

I said years ago that when Ken Clarke looked like a principled elder statesman, the party was in trouble.

I had no idea how far it had left to fall.
