Listening to my fash colleagues (one of whom drives a Range Rover) whining about Sadiq Khan and the 20mph speed limit in London, another said that buying one of these for your car was a good idea:

Cunts.

This is too infantile even for a peak career Clarkson.
Speedflip is a simple device that modifies your vehicle to give it a secret agent feel by allowing the driver to flip the vehicles Licence plate with one simple button press.

I predict crushed boy-racer cars.

Just remarking to Mrs A that, since ULEZ and the 20mph speed limit, living on our road has become much cleaner and quieter. Thank you, Sadiq.
Apart from the fucking motor bikes and the wankers doing 60 at midnight (sometimes the same people) that is.

I really had to bite my tongue when the cocky, lazy Mail-reading twat of a colleague pointed the Speedflip out to me.
I wondered how many kids' lives that 20mph limit in London has saved...?

So, in essence, it’s a device that permits you to conceal your vehicle’s registration plates. Driving without registration plates is a criminal offence is it not ?

My old flat got a low traffic network by it. It's in a road with 3 secondary and two primary schools, and hundreds of council flats with not very affluent kids living in them. So a pretty good location, you'd think.
Then Lutfur Rahman and pals won the election and pulled it out. I have to say in fairness that the adjacent major road has got busier. But even so, I think it was the wrong decision.

How often do you see cars without plates in your hood? Because round here it's getting increasingly common.

I see a lot of it, usually by the "clean front" brigade who will also have had their cars "coded" so that the front indicators are lit permanently - then they can pretend they're Yanks

In fact, I saw a tricked-up VW van doing just this on my way home. The number plate has conveniently fallen off (honest, guv) and is usually on the front parcel shelf in the windscreen.

The Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001
One of my colleagues is a former Met Response Officer and she can give you chapter and verse on your VRM - I didn't realise it was a legal requirement for a plate to bear the name of the people who produced it, for example.

Kudos to Sadiq Khan for considering this:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c14m142ze58o
I saw an article in the Grauniad on this matter earlier today and thought "Sadiq Khan would do well to take a leaf out of Mme. Hidalgo's book* on this" - and I see he has

As I drive a much smaller car now, I have grown to resent these giant, lumbering monsters and their drivers around me. You simply do not need a vehicle this big: a commenter on the BBC SYB on this says he needs one to tow his huge caravan. Well, I suspect there are plenty of 4wd estates from the likes of Volvo, BMW and Subaru that could fulfil that role admirably - good God, my old BMW was rated for towing 2 tons braked... best of all, it'll piss off some people I know at work too who are very proud of their Solihull shit.
*A former colleague of mine's Volvo V70XC (I
think I have the letters and numbers in the right order) just falls foul of the Paris weight limit, as he has learned on his visits there.

Yet another one of those things nobody could really argue about until Khan mentioned it, when it suddenly became the burning issue of the day.

The Tories are living up to usual standards in London, I see. "War on the motorist". Why might we want to restrict motoring, in a city that has very busy roads and lots of good public transport? It's a mystery.

And why should we discourage 4x4s that never driven away from tarmacked roads? Another mystery.

It’s clever really by Khan, it doesn’t affect a single vote of his

Yes yes yes but the coloured types use them.
