In the 90s a bridge over the M1 near Northampton bore the message "Kevin's Dad's a bender" for over a decade. I used to drive under it fairly regularly and pondered about Kevin, his Dad, the painter and why it never got cleaned off when other graffiti didn't survive that long. Finally the bridge got painted but within a couple of weeks someone had repainted the message copying the original's style, despite myself, I couldn't help but smile to see it back.
That was over 20 years ago and I no-longer use that stretch of the M1, I wonder if it's still there?

As far as flags on the property of residences go, if I was a copper and got called out to a domestic, and when I arrived at the address I saw St George's flags outside, I would find that useful info before I've even spoken to the residents. It would be like turning up at a murder scene to find someone stood over the body holding a knife.
I suppose Billy really is the best name for a flegshagger

They sound exactly the same as their English counterparts almost word for word. Before social media the far right had some differing bete noirs. Beating up on Fenians for eg. wouldn't resonate much with the Essex BNP. Unless you told them Fenia is an African country.
This is exactly the danger of the flag-wanking. When they first go up it's 'just a flag' and 'just a symbol of pride in are country'. But as time goes on, other meanings are subtly layered on from 'pride in are armed forces' to 'pride in are community', until they reach the inevitable 'this is a white area' and 'wogs out'.
Hands up if you saw this coming right from the very start.
