Tradition, makes you proud to be British.

Still dolling out British empire medals in the 21st century and no one comments shows they’re something sick in this nation’s psyche.

I posted it without comment because I felt our forumers would be able to make their own judgements.
I did not imply my approval of honours, and I'm rather surprised by your interpretation.

I did realise ‘tax avoidance adviser’ was your interpretation. Good call.

There’s a lot of people I like and admire accept these imperialist gongs and some who should know better but its not malevolent to enjoy a pat on the back. Or delight your mum and dad.

No consequences for those at the top who ruined the lives of innocent people but a bauble for one of the little people. How very British.
Betty Brown, the oldest surviving victim of the Post Office Horizon IT scandal, is given an OBE for services to justice for her part in the campaign against wrongful prosecutions. She said she would wear the award in honour of the other subpostmasters. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crrkgzy52keo

Not 'one of the little people' - a woman who fought, and fought hard, to bring to light a major injustice. Her efforts have been rewarded, that is completely beside the point the point of the consequences for the criminals involved.

They can be nominated by anyone, and a committee decides if they qualify. I've done it.
Fergusson has a reputation in a certain section of historians...
