They're back up again. NM are putting out a live video on YouTube at 5pm regarding being taken down.

Earlier Owen Jones was screaming on Facebook and Twitter about the "undemocratic power of social media giants" to "attack freedom of speech".
Now he's crowing that his "Twitter storm" forced YouTube to back down.

Owen needs to Google "irony".

He's no different to Brendan O'Neill or James Delingpole when they screech about their freedom of speech being eroded, on a platform where they are viewed in tens of thousands at least and the platform itself is inhabited by millions of users.

So big no one really noticed.

Brutally, yes. But doing that isn't reflective of the sort of civilised society we (allegedly) aspire to be either.

It is, however, the principal reason we don't hold a referendum on whether to restore the death penalty. If we've learned nothing else from the 2016 Brexit debacle, it's not to resort to a simple majority plebiscite to decide crucial and complex matters of state - because the "half the country" you're talking about are fuckwits that are too easily persuaded by lies and simplistic arguments into forming part of that simple majority.

Don't think that helps your case, Aaron. Isn't the cartoon at worst xenophobic? I would have thought someone at Novara Media would be first point out that racism is about power relationships, mainly directed towards people of colour from former colonies.

I'm not sure about that definition anymore. Certainly, structural racism is a thing and is the context in which lots of racism operates. But I don't think it really works to say that, eg, the murderers of Kriss Donald weren't racist killers.

(I don't by the way buy all the "how come we never hear about this?" stuff about this murder- it's fairly well known. And the difference with eg the Lawrence case is that the authorities in Scotland and Pakistan both did their jobs to make sure the killers faced justice).

But Aaron is talking rubbish, The point isn't that having an England flag tattoo is the same as wearing a white power pendant. It's that a lot of white power people appropriate the England flag
