Sad news about John Prescott's death.

He was a rarity, a genuine working class man who rose up the ladder of Labour politics to become deputy prime minister. Whatever one's view of him, he always stood up for his beliefs.

Britain desperately needs more of the likes of him in politics, otherwise it will continue to be the preserve of both the wealthy and well-connected.
