Scared to do anything. Which is exactly how Trump wants it.

It’s odd that they’ve alighted on Minnesota as their state that needs to be taught a lesson. It’s generally regarded as a well-run Blue state, and has a savvy governor who’ll give it back to them.

George Floyd was from Minnesota and something about Somalians who live there who are scum. Kamala doesn't run a state so Tim Waltz is the next best thing for Trump to exact his revenge for saying hurty things.

Getting tired of wishfulfilment pundits in the US yet again telling us Trump's finished and his support's crumbling.

Democrats have to take the blame for this too: putting up an old man not in the best of health who then stubbornly refused to step aside only to be replaced at the last minute by what would seem to be America's worst nightmare - a black female candidate.

I think you've answered your own question.

Minnesota became a target because of a conspiracy launched by influencers with camera phones.
They whipped up a story about Somalis running imaginary nurseries.
Their evidence was ...

There's some two way energy here between the administration and their thugs.

1. Irregular thugs (see Tommeh / LFox over here - but armed and uniformed over there) identify a cause.
2. Trump / Fox News / all his mutant beta followers talk up this crisis.
3. Deploy regular ICE thugs to take care of business.
4. Chaos
5. Profit!!!

A nursery didn't admit a mob handed crowd of fighting age angry men.

It might be purely personal that Walz has got under his skin, I suppose. Or that Minnesota Somalians are the latest meme. But still strikes me as odd, with eg California there with (to say the least) more visible social problems, and probably far more undocumented people. California has a culture war resonance too. Does anybody think "mad leftist elites" when they hear Minnesota?

I suspect that for many people, Minnesota conjures up images of Fargo - friendly, polite people in small towns, homespun good neighbourliness, and lots of snow.

It seems that the Somalian born population in the state is based largely in the twin cities (St Paul and Minneapolis). This might have been an attracting factor for ICE - all nice and gathered in one place already. They may have factored in the Minnesotan reputation for amicability and interpreted it as weakness or cowardice. "Hur hur, who's gonna stop us? Marge fuckin' Gunderson?" and so on.

Also, it's winter, Minnesota is cold, they may not have expected public resistance, overlooking that Minnesotans are used to this. And it's near to Chicago - another midwestern Democrat outpost. "Watch and learn, Windy City"?

So in summary, I think they chose what they thought would be a soft target, a least in part to warn other, more stereotypically violent parts of the US of what to expect if they resisted. Evidently they didn't watch Fargo (the film or TV series) all the way through.

It could also be a matter of scale. Bullies like picking on the little guy. Minneapolis-St Paul is the only large city in Minnesota, and it a fifth of the size of L.A.

You could view Minneapolis as a relatively soft touch; any invading ICE army would be vastly outnumbered by the Latino population in Southern California. Far more risk of overspill state-wide too.

I'm not sure Trump's big, brave thugs would be quite so willing when the enemy are more than a few people with whistles and smartphones.

The Greyhound bus company was founded in Hibbing, Minnesota. Public transport is woke. If you live in a town that's spitting distance from Canada you must now be feeling slightly aggrieved at this cruel near miss.

And Ice haven't got the balls to walk into Compton.
Be surprised if there isn't a plan to descend on the inner cities. Trump wants a pretext to impose martial law and sparking race war gets him there with the support of white middle America.

That Trump is targetting Democrat -run blue states and cities like Minnesota and Minneapolis is surely no coincidence. Red states will no doubt be insisting that all is well and those lovely ICE lads are doing a grand job, while places like Minneapolis are hotbeds of insurrection. There doesn't have to be stuff that can be portrayed as insurrection in every state - Trump is likely to claim falsely that there is if/when he wants to mobilise the Insurrection Act to cancel the mid-term elections.

There really isn’t anything you wouldn’t put past this malevolent looney and his sinister advisers and strategists.

Crabcakes wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 11:46 am So, predictions for the next 4 years of hilarity:

1. Trump does not make it through the full term. Maybe 2 years before dementia or another health issue takes him out. Vance will be the 48th president before the next election. If this happens before the mid-terms, the GOP infighting could potentially lose them both house and senate.
2a. Musk probably won’t make it to the end of 2025 as his buddy. There will be a falling out about something, because you can’t have 2 egos that big in a room. Plus Thiel will be applying pressure via Vance to get him out of the way as an influence.
2b. If Musk does last by simply avoiding clash issues and keeping the cash coming, he will try and pull some alpha tech bro shit on some/all of the other tech types to try and drive people to his hellsite by force, and in doing so make some powerful enemies who will suddenly be really interested in oversight and monopolies law.
3. Some really bad shit will happen - stupid tariffs, ICE raids, riots, inept responses to federal disasters, but the worst hit by it will be ordinary Americans. What this will do is immediately remind people how fucking desperate they were to be rid of Trump the first time on the one hand, and make it all the harder to pretend it *isn’t* Trump and the GOP this time given they have the house, senate and presidency. This is effectively their ‘Boris’ moment.
Hey, Crabbers, could you tell me what this week’s winning lottery numbers are going to be ?

You only have to look at the comments below LBC's coverage of Trump to see full-throated MAGA support.
