I think this actually a new line being crossed here.

Trump did comparatively well among black voters in 2024, getting 20%, which is the best performance since 2000, which reflects among other things that black household income went up in his first term (as Republicans borrowed money they wouldn't let Obama borrow).

Depicting black people as monkeys is probably a pretty good way of pissing these voters away.

They'll say "Obama's the real racist" or something. Which will do for the base, but might not wash with some of their black supporters.

I'd imagine/hope his black supporters woke-up long ago, the MAGA base will love it and be eagerly anticipating the Obamas being lynched by the Klan video.

There seems to have been a fall in black support for Trump, just as there have been among most groups. But it's still surprisingly high (not in that it's a high number but that he's more popular than less racist Republicans have been in the past).

A Marist survey released this week shows sharp declines in Trump’s standing with Gen Z, Latino, and Black voters since June. Among Black voters, Trump’s support fell from -42 in June to -53 now, while his backing among Latinos slipped from -5 to -16. Gen Z, once considered a surprising area of growth for Trump, has shifted dramatically against him, with support falling from -22 to -38.
