Might have known that Squealer would have emerged from the woodwork as soon as Keir Starmer might be in some sort of trouble.

He’s been harbouring a giant Starmer-shaped grudge ever since he became Labour leader.

He's praising the "unashamedly populist" approach of Polanski. Try that one with the financial markets.

There's definitely an opportunity here, but Zack doesn't strike me as the sort to knock a party into shape ahead of seeking power. You can talk up members democracy all you like, but it's not really a viable alternative. You'll get a bunch of hobby horse spending policies then someone will sit down and make up a load of numbers that roughly balance. As I say, try that one with the financial markets.

One of the giveaways of how it'll likely go is the way the wealth tax is discussed. When it's pointed out that these don't raise much in other countries, people quickly pivot too "well, it's good anyway because there's too much inequality". There's something to be said for that, unless you're claiming you'll pay for tons of stuff out of the proceeds. Then you have a problem.

Britons don’t want any part of Trump’s war fixation – the sooner Labour realises that the better
Owen Jones
Kowtowing to US foreign policy in Iraq and Afghanistan had disastrous consequences. Why are leaders making the same mistake all over again?
In which Owen doesn't exactly spell out that the British public position seems to be.... aligned with Starmer, limited strikes against bases from which we have been attacked, in line with our allies. In the comments he bullshits about how we wouldn't be happy if it was a country letting Russia use its bases.

Rather than agree with Starmer, which is a fate worse than death, he talks about the "elite who have forfeited the right to govern". Well indeed, there are some powerful people who want a much more hawkish policy. But you know what? The Government hasn't done what they want, and these people are furious.

The elite, in this sense, of a narrow rightwing group, probably didn't want workers rights expanded, or renters rights. Or taxes to be put up by quite a lot for public spending. Or so much green energy capacity added. Or VAT on private school fees. Perhaps at some point somebody who is paid to right for a living could ponder this stuff, and draw some sort of conclusion about the actual Starmer Government.
