Hannah Spencer has a point though. I actually thought that being three-sheets was a decent strategy for selling your auntie Diane a Nissan Micra - it was - but times have changed.

I don't regret those wonderful years, but there is no room for alcohol and the exotics in good decision-making.

(For the avoidance of doubt; we still have a fag and a bonding beer at work, before we close the business down for the evening.)

At the end of the day, mind, Hannah would be well-advised to invest in a decent hair conditioner which hasn't been tested on animals - or Javier Milei.

Spencer would have a point if she was right. Is Labour really still full of fat gutted ex trade union hacks supping up their twelfth pint before the lobby bell rings? Or alcoholic shire Tories in bow ties on their second bottle of decent malt. I'm not convinced.

BTL on the Guardian would have made the Puritans/Sally Army proud with their stance on alcohol in the workplace, especially where MPs are concerned.

I will very likely run into my MP socially in a few weeks' time: I'll ask him what he thinks.
