I wonder how much more effective a few peace rallies would have been over sending a task force half-way round the world to boot the Argentinians out of the Falklands?

Maybe Hitler would have withdrawn from Poland if a massive peace rally had been organised*.

Pearl Harbor could have escaped attack if only a few hundred thousand Americans had marched through New York.

Yep, peace rallies are definitely the answer.

*Stalin, of course, did absolutely nothing wrong whatsoever.

Campaigning for peace is an admirable thing, and nobody in their right mind wants war. Especially if they're going to be directly affected by it. However, when it's obvious that peace is not an option, you have to be prepared to fight.

The emphasis re Israel seems to be rather different. It's not a peace campaign there, it's a campaign v Israeli imperialism (quite rightly). Why is it a peace campaign now, not a campaign against Putinist imperialism?

War may not be the answer, but it rarely comes as a question. And when it comes as a demand, such as from Putin, appeasement is definitely not the answer.

I’m sure those Ukrainians outside Downing Street that I met and talked with today would be so glad of the peace rally, I felt utterly ashamed of my country when I was talking to them.

Surely not even the Greatest Hits are going to save Jez in Islington North now.

No to War, No to NATO. State of that. No mention of Putin.

I take it they're not quite up to date with current affairs. The centrepiece of that triptych - "NO WAR IN UKRAINE"

Err... What? Isn't it a bit late for that?

Regardless of anything else, it must surely make the heart of anyone wanting to attend sink to see Corbyn’s name up, knowing full well it’ll be the same old speech they heard him give last week and the week before that, with the same overly simplistic points.

I would have thought anyone wanting to attend this rubbish would be the sort of idiot who wants to hear the Greatest Hits of the Greatest Political Mind in the World.

Some of the same speech. This one is unlikely to include a section on how the United Nations could sort it all out.

National Officer of Stop The War. Pinned tweet, no less. The whole feed is unbelievable, one Putin talking point after another.

This shit is going all over the leaflets if Jez runs.

Nah, that would just help Jez and pals line the new candidate up. Basically anything will do with them, see eg how Owen Smith having worked for "Big Pharma" was bad.

McDonnell withdrew his signature the other day, Surely he's done for if he turns up for this with Jez?

Kevin Courtney is the joint chair of the teachers' union. Very helpful of you to turn up for this "in a personal capacity", Kev. I can hear Nadim Zahawi laughing his arse off from here.
