I think quite a few snooker players have got into trouble for betting against themselves but if snooker is your main source of income placing the odd bet against yourself is a bit of an insurance policy. It used to be the case in the world championship that if you won your first round match at the Crucible you won £20,000 but if you lost you only got £10,000. A small side bet on the final score of the game could help ensure that the very least you walked away with would be £15,000. In the first round you know the winner is going to win 10 frames so you could go for a score of 10-2 or 10-3 and just put enough effort in to get the 2 or 3 frames you need to win the bet.

Breaking news : The loathsome Phillip Davies, former MP for Shipley and husband of the equally loathsome Esther McVey, has apparently been found to have placed an £8000 bet on him losing his seat at the election.

And still it continues.

That's a whole different ball game to a ton on the election date.
Maybe not as illegal, but you have to wonder which bookie accepted that bet.

I've known people put bets on elections, of course I have.
£8k is a lot, but he's using publicly available data and if a bookie takes the bet that's fair enough.

Nobody raises an eyebrow when the Duke of Buckingham's trainer's stable lad tells his mate in the public bar of the Horsewhipped Poacher that his Grace's unraced two year-old is breaking all records on the gallops. Where Plod are concerned I really can't see the harm.

Philip Davies is a big mate of Harry Findlay, a particularly flamboyant professional gambler. I’m sure he bets on all sorts of stuff. Hard to see a problem with this bet compared to any made by himself or indeed Harry Findlay.
