Slight tangent, but all these old sitcoms reminds me that I once managed to ‘inception’ a colleague at work into remembering a 70s sitcom I’d entirely made up called “Mind them Turds!”, which starred Thora Hird as an overbearing mother trying to prevent her put upon son escaping the family business of a sewage farm.

Lee Anderson really is a cock. I met the late Ronnie Wolfe on a number of occasions he wrote 'On the Buses' and the 'Rag Trade'. He was really great, you couldn't have met a kinder more generous person who was always helping younger writers trying to break into the business. Ronnie was Jewish and he was brought up in the East End of London when Oswald Moseley and his Black shirts were a major threat in the area. Ronnie would have found everything about Anderson utterly repugnant.

I also know a number of people who have worked with John Sullivan who wrote 'Only Fools and Horses'. He was also generous with his time helping new writers breaking into the industry. He would also have loathed right wing racists like Anderson.

Sitcoms reflected what life was like at the time that they were written. Many old sitcoms have been retired from TV because they are no longer relevant and do use offensive stereotypes which are now seen as outdated and wrong.

Does 30p Lee live in a Dick Van Dyke fantasy world of English working class life or just another day in the land even Nottingham forgot?

He gets more of a dickhead. When not blaming immigrants for everything, bullshit about avocados is all Reform have in the tank.

It's just nothing. Nothing is there. An implicit celebration of the dullest fucking nothingness on Earth.

And I love me some fish and chips.

A plate? Bit fucking posh. Real Brits eat their chips out of a newspaper. Or a styrofoam thing you can chuck into a neighbour's front garden. And a mineral water? Why don't you just come out and say that you love communism, Pochin?

Since when has fish, chips and peas been a ‘light snack”? Also, those peas don’t look mushy and that doesn’t look lard fried to me. That’s not working man food.

Bloody class traitor. 😁

And that's an MP selected in a key by-election. Imagine what the councillors are like. So far 22 have stood down.

I'm pleased to say that Paul's Plaice by Hanger Lane tube wouldn't charge that much (and it'd be absolutely delicious too), neither would the Golden Plaice in Borehamwood.

Round here a large cod and large chips is £16.

A long, long way from my "sixpence of chips" I enjoyed as a small child in the early 70s...

Four and eight-pence farthing says that she tucked in to an Ottolenghi knock-off after the shoot and he offered to get his knob out, "for effters."

It looked like she was in a pub or, to quote Alan Partridge, a modest restaurant. £16 for a takeaway chippy is scandalous; round here it's usually a few shillings either side of £10.
