Here's today's "Let's make Blue Labour sound important" story, news that "Blue Labour leader" ex-Corbynite, Dan Carden, has changed his vote on assisted dying (he abstained before, so it's not a huge leap). The logic is as bad as you'd expect. Everyone must suffer because palliative care for poor people isn't great (it's not great for anybody, and even if it were it does nothing for lots of conditions).

I suppose the Guardian does talk up everybody who opposes assisted dying, but bonus points for Blue Labour. Perhaps we'll get a "isn't it terrible Blue Labour are so important"article tomorrow.

I think they and Bluesky believe that since McSweeney is a part of blue Labour and he controls Starmer therefore we have a blue labour government.

I saw Labour allocating money for potholes attributed to McSweeney, Like nobody else would have thought "hmm, people see these every day and hate them, we could do something about this". Lucky this was announced some time ago, or else it would probably be "outflanking Reform" too.

What with assisted dying, decriminalizing abortion just from the last week or so, I wonder if the Blue Labour influence could be overstated?

Blue Labour

Crime and antisocial behaviour are contributing to a sense that public order is breaking down, with working-class communities usually the victims. We must restore the trust and authority of our police force, clarifying its increasingly blurred mission, so that it can focus on the small number of repeat offenders who are responsible for the vast majority of crime.

"Blurred mission"?! This is basically "cops are spending all the time flying Pride flags and worrying about offence on Twitter", isn't it?

Arresting prolific offenders. the Police have never thought of this.

I think I've found your Edwin exchange. As you put it, he thought Starmer was on some sort of maverick Ukraine mission that European allies opposed because the "EU" didn't formally request Starmer meet Trump- why would you expect it to do that? As you say, the EU has Fico and Orban in it. Chlorinated chicken and hormone beef get a run out as well.
