The post Malc quoted from Good Law was about claims the BBC censor negative lgbtq coverage (part of the content of the memo leaked to the telegraph that led to the recent resignations of senior bbc staff), and other bit refers to the results of a YouGov poll.

I’m not sure what you’re saying “no” to/about?

I know Linehan did it because of the IT Crowd incident and I get the impression Rowling doubled- and trebled-down after some originally comparatively mild comments, but what caused Sharron Davies to go like that? Was it just seeing trans swimmers competing with women or was there something else?

I’m convinced for some people it’s an inability to suppress revulsion at something different and a sense of an already vulnerable target. It’s why the grief is almost always aimed at trans women, and more specifically those trans women that cannot pass as well as others. Hence the insults “we can always tell” and calling them blokes etc. - very few anti-trans activists target bearded, muscular trans men.

For Linehan, I think he wants to be seen as a white knight riding to the rescue - and the irony is, he was seen like that when he was fighting for abortion rights in Ireland. For Davis, I’d say the signs were always there - Tory fan, thought decriminalising homelessness was a mistake, plus personal bitterness at losing a gold medal to an East German athlete who had been put on testosterone - so a combination of feeling hard done by, and a natural bully from being right leaning.

Davies is an athlete, not an academic. She's never come across as particularly erudite on anything other than running very fast.

How the hell they try to spin it as "really about being inclusive and supportive" is beyond me.

Actual support would be calling on Pressdram vs Arkell and inviting the terfs to have a go. Fuck it, on the nudie calendars, they cover up the naughty bits.

The Girl Guiding movement made the same announcement yesterday. Lots of platitudes about how they support their trans members and volunteers - just not enough to actually want them any more.

I've got quite a few friends in the guiding movement who're absolutely livid.

Yes, I’m assuming there’s a great deal here which is “well we’d love to help, but it would be a bit of a bother and there’d probably be a fight, so as we can take the easy route out and blame someone else we’ll just do that. Soz.”

Reminds me a great deal of the astonishing amount of organisations who immediately abandoned any sort of DEI policy - often before Trump had even pointed the finger at them. Though perhaps even more disappointing given the alleged aims of the organisation and - again - the fact they had an inclusive policy in place for FORTY FUCKING YEARS without it being a problem. Clearly far easier to just fold like a wet envelope than, I dunno, point at that and the absolute lack of evidence of any issues and tell the gender critical lawsuit mob to piss off.

Apparently, one possible reason for the cave-in is a fear of the cost of fending off multiple vexatious challenges from arseholes who would otherwise be blethering on about black police associations.

Problem with that is "vexatious". If a spurious case is brought against you, go to court. Enjoy the day out. You don't need a lawyer, and the judge will throw it out in minutes.

"We've had trans members for years. Fuck off." should have sufficed.
