It's what they want. Lots of heavily armed sovereign states pointing guns at each other, and no alliances save for transactional ones. Small countries buying protection from bigger countries, with the USA and Russia at the top. The cold war, without any of that ideology crap getting in the way of profit.

Odd, isn't it, how things can sometimes fall. Just the other day, I observed how curious it was that for our American cousins, one of the worst insults that you can level at anybody is that they are "un-American". I also observed that there isn't really a parallel insult in the UK whereby you can accuse someone of being "un-British".

And then, within days, up pops first the Home Secretary, and now the Prime Minister, doing exactly that. People protesting against the Israeli "genocide" too close to the terrorist attack on the Manchester synagogue and/or the two year anniversary date of the Hamas atrocities against Israel is apparently "un-British".

I don't quite get this. Is it typically British to eschew political protest on any particular date?

What the fuck are the things that make something typically "British" anyway ?

How about a JFK inspired Patriots Day so the flag shaggers can volunteer to do something for their country. Maybe Tommeh could lead a litter pick in Luton or Farage donate some blood.
Plenty of people of course volunteering in their community every day, they're the real super patriots.

They'd likely suggest unemployed people do it. For free.

I think it was Britain First who a few years ago made a big thing of going round city centres offering homeless people "hot pork suppers". And totally not taking note of whoever didn't partake and going back later to give them a good shoeing.

I remember the occasional BNP effort to not look like a bunch of thugs. Normally doing things like making deliveries for white pensioners and so on. Spoiled slightly when a few weeks later you'd see the same thugs up in court for ripping off said pensioners over iffy building work.

I think it shows a lack of regard and respect, yes. People whose first reaction to the October 7th attacks was to march for Palestine, and who want to mark the anniversary by protesting are being cruel. Take a day off.

By all means protest at other times, it's worthwhile reminding the world that the Israeli government has grotesquely and deliberately over-reacted, some might even say with glee. Though I don't think either Netanyahu nor Trump give a fuck about any of that.

It would be interesting to know how much the average 'victim of neoliberalism' Tommeh marcher makes every week. Doubt they'd swap their take home pay with that of a 'metropolitan elite' precariat worker. They just aren't listened to.

Its the tinned eared crank left not reading the room; 'We're not blaming British Jews for the Gaza conflict so what's the problem?'
Followed by a gotcha: 'You're the anti-semitic ones for suggesting we should, ner ner ner.'

Yeah, I agree with that, pretty tactless, as was the protest straight after the actual terrorist attack on Jews in England.

I also think that Shabana Mahmood has a point about the frequency of the demos. Would Owen Jones, Jez and co have the same outrage if demos were going on all the time v "Islamic Extremism"- there's not exactly a shortage of that across the world. Muslims in Britain would be well within their rights to feel uncomfortable about that, just as I think Jews are within their rights to be uncomfortable about the Palestine demos. As Nadine Batchelor-Hunt has said, there have been regular anti-semitic elements tolerated. It's one thing to say "We don't mean you, we mean Israel, and anyway here are some Jews who are marching", but it's not always as self-contained as that, is it? I doubt Jez would accept "We don't mean you regular Muslims, we mean just mean people like the Iranian Mullahs, and here are some ex-Muslims who are protesting".

None of this means I accept Badenoch's characterization of the marches as "festivals of hate", because very obviously they aren't overall. But I don't see Mahmood's suggestion as beyond the pale or "pro-genocide" or anything else.

Just like the idea that football hooligans were people mugged off by Thatcherism turned out to be absolute bollocks.

That does my head in, seen it lots of times. Do you think Jews might feel a bit uneasy with some of this stuff? Oh, you mean Jews and Israel are the same? You're the racist!

Meanwhile the headbangers of X and the right-wing nutter media are losing their shit over Gary Neville.
"Jeremy Kyle exploded" isn't really news. Brings the same class to political punditry as he did bullying mentally ill alcoholics for the nation's amusement.

Yeah, remind me how the Son of the Queen Mum's private secretary accumulated his wealth?
